Congrats to Ollie Sparks, the latest local scout to reach the coveted rank of Eagle! Ollie completed a project in partnership with @powdermillnaturereserve1956 where he organized a team of scouts and adults to help clear invasive growing plants around the Avian Research Center, and then returned later with 15 bird boxes designed for local species of birds. Congrats Ollie! 🎉🐦🦉🎉

Creative completion is fun! At a recent meeting we challenged the scouts to melt a block of ice with a key inside it so that they could open a lock. The only tools they could use were flint and steel (firestarter), everything else they had to find themselves. They had a ton of fun working in small teams, scavenging for supplies, and utilizing skills that they've learned. Know someone aged 11-18 that thinks this would be fun? Reach out! They're welcome to be part of this amazing group.

A little over a month ago we helped @powdermillnaturereserve1956 with their "Owling at the Moon" event and had a blast! We got to get up close and personal with some owls while learning a ton and helping them run this amazing event.

We had so much fun decking out our prized winning Klondike Sled, getting dressed up, and participating in Ligonier's Annual Light Up Night Parade. Hopefully everyone had a great time and enjoyed the free candy canes 😁 🎄

What do you do when you meet when it's dark out? Have fun with it! A few meetings ago we tried "painting with light" and the scouts had tons of fun experimenting and coming up with unique creations.

It’s been TWO weekends in a row of super fun campouts for Troop 372! 🏕️

On Sepember 27th the Troop camped at the International Conservation Center (an elephant sanctuary) in Somerset. As part of the Pittsburgh Zoo’s efforts to help the species, 5 elephants are cared for here, along with a collection of camels. The scouts learned about these animals and had so much fun camping there in spite of the rain! (As you can see from the first few photos, a human pyramid happened!)

The Troop also attended the Westmoreland Fayette Council’s Scout Fall Camporee at Camp Conestoga this past weekend. The theme was cooking - every troop had to actively plan a menu that included a main course, a side dish, and a dessert which had to be cooked at camp with 90% scout participation. All the Troops gathered together for dinner Saturday night and sampled all the food. Our troop made walking tacos, cornbread, and a Dutch oven dump cake. Scouts learned a lot about cooking over a fire! They also had an in-depth lesson on knot-tying from a knowledgeable parent. October has been fun for these scouts!

We are selling Marianna’s Italian subs on the Diamond this morning till noon or till we sell out (and they’re going crazy fast!) if you’ve never had a Marianna’s sub, they are incredible - because they keep a long time in the fridge with how they vacuum pack the toppings. For several years our troop has helped collect donations from the audience for the Ligonier Chamber of Commerce during our annual Summer Band concerts. Tonight Reagan and Ivan helped and it was our last one of the season. Band enthusiasts, we’ll see you next summer on the Ligonier Diamond!

The Scouts of Troop 372 had an AMAZING experience last week at Summit Bechtel Reserve, one of the four national Scout camps in the US, located near New River Gorge, West Virginia. Scouts worked on merit badges of their choice, such as climbing and pioneering, all week, and enjoyed a finale of a challenging water obstacle course and riding one of the longest zip lines in North America, affectionately (and formally) known as ‘The Big Zip’. A highlight of the week was when our troop invited troops from Canada and Dubai to their campsite to partake in prepared kickball and four-square games. Neckerchiefs were exchanged, pins of the Canadian flags were dispersed, and stories of scouting life in other countries were shared! There were memories made that are the epitome of the scouting experience. Thank you, @bechtelsummit !!.

Currently half of our troop is experiencing an epic week at one of the BSA’s national Scout camps - Summit Bechtel Reserve, located near new River Gorge in West Virginia. They’re all working on merit badges such as hiking, camping, pioneering, and animation. they’re really looking forward to doing The Big Zip, one of the longest zip lines in North America, which is happening tomorrow! Many hotdogs and marshmallows have been roasted! We’ve received reports of great behavior, good camaraderie, and a few trips to the medical station (nothing too serious!) We are happy to report that everyone is showering nightly this time! 🤣 Many thanks to the adults, Amy & Jon, who have lent their time and energy to wrangling these kids this year! (There will be more pictures posted upon their return.)

Last weekend Ligonier Scouts met at the home of their Scoutmaster, Mike, to have an epic nerf gun battle, just for the sake of F.U.N. This was an activity that the scouts themselves planned, and everyone had a BLAST (literally!)

Tonight Troop372/1372 held their annual Spring Court of Honor, where 47 badges, 12 rank advancements, and 32 special awards were given out to our scouts. We are very proud of all of them for their hard work and perseverance!

On Saturday our scouts braved the chilly wet day and met in a pavilion at Laurel Summit State Park. They worked on requirements for their First Aid Merit Badge under the guidance of Dr. Lisa Yothers, an active leader in our troop and mother of two Eagle Scouts. 17 scouts were checked off on the majority of what’s needed to earn this badge and they’ll be official after one more meeting’s work, ready to spring into action when a first aid need arises.

It’s tradition for the Scouts of Troop 372 to help out with the Southern Allegheny Museum Of Art’s annual Easter egg hunt. On Tuesday, scouts cleared away sticks and leaves in preparation for this beloved event. We hope to see you @samaligonier this Saturday at 1pm, rain or shine!

Each of the 18 Troops in attendance went through skill-testing stations, earning points along the way. They did activities such as sawing logs at a lumberjack station, and cooking doughnuts and pancakes over a fire they had to start themselves. The Troop racked up enough points to earn 4th place! The day culminated in the much anticipated Klondike Sled Race, where each Troop dragged a homemade sled with a scout sitting inside through the forest on a snowy trail. Troop 372/1372 took FIRST PLACE in the sled race this year!! They happily took home a 5 quart cast-iron dutch oven and a foldable shovel as prizes.

Some things that topped the list: the Klondike Derby, kayaking and paddle boarding, rock climbing, and a Ga-Ga Ball Day, which is one of their beloved camp group sports.

The scouts were also asked to think about things they might want to change within the troop to make scouting more what they want it to be. Through a productive conversation they came up with the following words that they want to use to symbolize what Troop 372/1372 is about moving forward: Adventurous, Active, Reliable, and Respectful.

The Troop’s first camping experience of 2024 was a success with a comfortable cabin accommodation that fit all the scouts at Antiochian Village this past weekend!
